Web Desk - A Liverpool cat named Willow has been nominated for a National Cat Award after saving its diabetic owner's life. Amanda Jameson, aged 51, lost consciousness after going to bed one night with dangerously low blood sugar. Willow bit the leg of Ms Jameson's partner Ray Sherwood, aged 57, who had fallen asleep in front of the television and paced around to wake him up. Willow then led Mr Sherwood upstairs, where he found Amanda unresponsive and called for an ambulance.
Mr Sherwood said, "It was very out of character for her and made me get up to see what all the fuss was about. She was running between me and the stairs, looking back at me. I followed her up the stairs, and she kept looking back at me to make sure I was coming." When he entered the bedroom, Willow leaped onto the bed, and he saw Amanda slumped over.
Willow's quick thinking and persistence helped save Ms Jameson's life. The feline hero is among the finalists for the National Cat Awards, which celebrate the remarkable stories of cats from all over the UK. The awards ceremony will take place in August at the Savoy Hotel in London.
The National Cat Awards are held annually by Cats Protection, a charity organization that aims to help cats and improve their welfare. This year, the awards received over 1,000 entries, with Willow being one of the five finalists in the Hero Cat category. The other categories include Furr-ever Friends, Most Caring Cat, Outstanding Rescue Cat, and Purina Better Together.
The awards ceremony will feature a range of feline-themed entertainment and will be hosted by comedian Alan Davies. The winners will receive a trophy and a prize, with the overall winner receiving the prestigious National Cat of the Year title. The National Cat Awards aim to highlight the exceptional qualities of cats and the bond they share with their owners. Willow's story is a shining example of how cats can be loving and protective companions, who can make a life-saving difference when it matters most.
